It takes A LOT to get something changed in the U.S.A., but it is worth it...
As a lobbyist/PAC member and Interest Group Representative, you ahve a LOT of power over how our lawmakers make decisions on how to vote on issues. Not only do you spend a lot of time with lawmakers, but you are often paid to do so. In order to best do your role as a lobbyist/PAC member/Interest Group Rep who wants to influence change, you MUST answer the following questions ON YOUR OWN paper and share them with your group BEFORE deciding on how best to present your group's side of the issue to the whole class. Use the resources (internet and books) included herein to help you find the answers to these and other important questions you think of on your own.
1. What are lobbyists, and how do they influence lawmakers?
2. What are Political Action Committees (PAC), and how do they influence lawmakers?
3. What is an Interest Group (sometimes called a Special Interest Group), an how do these groups influence lawmakers?
4. What is the difference between lobbyists, PACs, and Interest Groups?
5. What is the difference between PACs/Interest Groups AND Political Parties?
6. Knowing what you know after answering 1-5, write a paragraph about the best way to influence people to aggree with you on your issue? How would a lobbyist, PAC, or Interest Group do to get people to agree?
